Almost Holy (2015)

Following the disintegration of the Soviet Union, Ukraine underwent significant transformations in its social and political structures. This period was marked by a surge in governmental corruption and a decay in essential infrastructure, leading to dire consequences. Among them, a generation of Ukrainian youth found themselves destitute, ensnared in a dangerous cycle of substance abuse involving a deadly concoction of cold medicine and alcohol. Enter Gennadiy Mokhnenko, a pastor hailing from Mariupol, who emerged as a beacon of hope in the early 2000s. Mokhnenko embarked on a bold mission to combat child homelessness by actively rescuing street children and relocating them to his groundbreaking Pilgrim Republic rehabilitation facility – the most extensive initiative of its kind in the former Soviet territories. Revered by some as a local legend and condemned by others as a rogue vigilante, Gennadiy's unwavering dedication and uncompromising methods have solidified his legacy in the community. Despite facing backlash and disapproval, he remains resolute in his resolve to pursue his altruistic endeavors.
