Britain’s Greatest Codebreaker (2012)

Alan Turing, the brilliant British mathematician, played a crucial role in deciphering the German naval Enigma Code during World War II, a feat that potentially saved countless lives. Despite his remarkable contributions, Turing's accomplishments remained unacknowledged in his time. Instead of being lauded for his genius, he was unjustly persecuted for his homosexuality, deemed a criminal under the laws of the era. In 1952, he was found guilty of 'gross indecency' and subjected to 'organo-therapy' - a form of chemical castration. Tragically, at the young age of 41, Turing tragically took his own life with cyanide in 1954. The very nation he had served so valiantly ultimately drove him to despair and an untimely demise.
