The Proud Ones (1956)

In the film, an elderly sheriff portrayed by Robert Ryan is tasked with maintaining law and order in a rustic cattle town, where he is engaged to Virginia Mayo. Amidst his challenges in handling rowdy cattle drovers, a deceitful casino owner from Ryan's past arrives in town. Following a confrontation at the casino, Ryan experiences visual impairments that hinder his ability to fulfill his duties. Jeffrey Hunter, who arrives in town as part of a cattle drive, crosses paths with Ryan, the same man who had taken Hunter's father's life during his youth. Initially filled with resentment, Hunter's feelings towards Ryan gradually shift as he starts to believe the sheriff's version of events regarding his father. As the story unfolds, tensions escalate towards an inevitable and dramatic showdown.
