The Rum Diary (2011)

Fed up with the chaos of New York City and the suffocating societal norms of the late Eisenhower era, wandering writer Paul Kemp escapes to the unspoiled beauty of Puerto Rico. There, he joins the staff of a struggling newspaper in San Juan, led by the weary editor Lotterman. Embracing a life drenched in rum, reminiscent of Hemingway's 'The Lost Generation', Kemp finds himself drawn into a complex web involving an enchanting American woman and her fiancé, a dubious real estate tycoon. It is amidst this backdrop that Kemp unearths his authentic voice as a writer and his moral compass as a human being.
