As a chilling recession tightens its grasp on Britain, with wages plummeting, prices soaring, and civil unrest escalating, only the bankers seem to remain unscathed. In the year 1783, Ross Poldark makes his way back to Cornwall following the American War of Independence, only to discover a heartbreaking sight: his father has passed away, the family mine is a distant memory, his home lies in ruins, and his beloved is set to wed his cousin.
